Transforming communities.

Imagine going to school in a dilapidated building without a roof, toilets, or lights, let alone school supplies. Picture yourself hungry, in economic despair, with no access to resources that can help you. For many Nigerian communities, like Sapele, this is reality.

Mission Africa is working to change this by providing Sapele residents a network of support to help educate, heal, and grow.

The Mission Africa Story

Mission Africa was founded in 2007. At that time, founder Victor Jakpor, of Sapele, Nigeria, answered the call to help the children of his homeland who no longer had the ability to receive a good education.

Education

Due to poor conditions, lack of supplies, and limited accessibility, schools in Sapele, Nigeria, struggle to accommodate students. The town is home to nearly 59,000 children under age fourteen, yet half of them do not attend school. Of those who do, the average age students drop out is nine years old.

In collaboration with local leaders, and through initiatives like annual book drives, Mission Africa is devoted to improving the overall quality of education with the goal of increasing student retention and the hope of a brighter future.

Water Systems & Health Services

Inadequate sanitation systems, safe drinking water, and medical care are significant obstacles to the health and well-being of most Nigerians. In Sapele alone, 70% of the population does not have access to clean drinking water and 90% live without available sanitation methods. Due to widespread poverty, most people cannot afford basic healthcare.

Mission Africa is working to provide wells and latrines to this community and has partnered with medical professionals in Sapele to provide needed medical supplies. These continued efforts will have a sustained, positive impact on this population.
